چکیده
The original DDT bibliography was developed and posted 8.08.96 by Suzanne M. Snedeker, Ph.D BCERF Research Project Leader. Selected sections were updated by Erica Allgyer in the spring of '00 as a part of an undergraduate independent study project. Other sections were updated in October and November of 2000, and February of 2001 by Dr. Snedeker and Michael Marshall, undergraduate Research Assistant.

Transcriptional effects of Organochlorine o,p′-DDT and its Metabolite p,p′-DDE in Transfected MDA-MB 231 and MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cell Lines
Background: The organochlorine DDT has estrogenic activity but the mechanism underlying the estrogenic activity of this pesticide remains unclear. In the present investigation here, we studied the transcriptional effects of a synthetic organochlorine pesticide o,p’-DDT [1.1.1.-trichloro-2-(o-chlorophenyl)-2-p-chloriphenyl ethane] and its metabolite p,p'-DDE (2-2-bis(4/chlorophenyl)-1-1-di...

BACKGROUND Controversy still exists about the breast carcinogenic properties in humans of environmental xenoestrogens (organochlorines), justifying new investigations. AIMS To compare the blood levels of total dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and hexachlorobenzene (HCB) in samples collected at the time of breast cancer discovery, in order to avoid the potential consequences of body weigh...
متن کامل#574 - The Truth About Breast Cancer -- Part 4
Late last month the NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE (NEJM) published a study (by David J. Hunter) comparing the levels of DDE and PCBs in the blood of two groups of women, one group with breast cancer, the other without.[1] The Hunter study failed to find a positive relationship between breast cancer and DDE or PCBs in the blood. DDE is a breakdown product of the organochlorine pesticide DDT, w...
متن کاملPesticides and breast cancer risk: a review of DDT, DDE, and dieldrin.
Established risk factors for breast cancer explain breast cancer risk only partially. Hence, there has been interest in evaluating what role environmental chemicals, especially those with evidence of being hormonally active agents, play in breast cancer risk. Organochlorine pesticides have received the most attention because of their persistence in the environment, ability to concentrate up the...
متن کاملDDT/DDE and breast cancer: a meta-analysis.
The biological basis for investigating dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) exposure and breast cancer risk stems from in vitro and animal studies indicating that DDT has estrogenic properties. The objective of this study was to update a meta-analysis from 2004 which found no association between dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE) and breast cancer. We searched PubMed and Web of Science for...
